Walter Henning (St. Anthony's, South Huntington, NY) threw a new sophomore class record this weekend and moved to the top of the boy's performance list with a comfortable three foot lead this past weekend. His mark of 70'07.50" was one of three throws he had over 67 feet and was confirmed Sunday as an official national class record. The mark surpass Manny Silverio's national sophomore class record of 69'01.00" set back in 1974. Silverio's record was the oldest weight throw record still around. While good marks have been coming out of Ohio all year, the girl's made a big splash this weekend by throwing some big bests. Now the Ohio girls have two throwers over 50 feet and three of the top seven girls in the nation. Tara Cooper (Logan Elm, Circleville, OH) threw a personal best of 53'03.50" to win the Rubber City Open in Akron, Ohio. That mark moves her atop the girl's list.
