This weekend was a great weekend for the women's weight throw. Going into the weekend, Tara Cooper (Logan Elm, Circleville, OH) and Emily Sanders (Sequoyah, Canton, GA) were tied for the national lead. However, at the Akron Blue and Gold High School Meet in Ohio, Cooper slightly improved her personal best. But, that was not enough to end the weekend atop the national performance list. On Sunday, Kim Williams (Alexander, Douglasville, GA) also improved her best by several feet to 56'01.75". That mark puts her atop the list with a more than two foot lead over the next thrower.
Also this weekend, the annual Weightarama took place in Rhode Island. Walter Henning won the boy's weight throw, while Megan Maloney (Barrington, RI) took the girl's competition. Zack Midles (Capital, Olympia, WA) also tied his personal best from last season by throwing 218'07" at an early season meet in Washington.
