There were lots of big marks over the weekend among both men and women.  Marcel Lomnicky (Virginia Tech) and Walter Henning (LSU) both broke 71-meters again and Steffen Nerdal (Memphis) also opened his season over 70-meters.  A slew of throws also improved in the 65- to 67-meter range.  Perhaps the most surprising result, however, was that Virginia Tech's Alexander Ziegler only opened his season at 63.25m.  Ziegler, a 22-year old freshman from Germany, has a personal best of 72.46m.

Freshman Lauren Chambers (USC) led the collegiate women over the weekend with a win in the collegiate division at the Mt. SAC Relays.  Chambers set a new personal best of 62.93m, which is also a new U.S. junior national record.  Sarah Grimm (Utah) also broke 200-feet for the first time.

In the post-collegiate ranks, Amber Campbell set a new U.S.-leading mark and personal best of 71.04m to win the Mt. SAC Relays.  Her toss of is the seventh best in the world so far this year.  After a transition year with a new coach in 2009, Kibwé Johnson also returned to form with a toss of 75.70m to place second behind Libor Charfreitag's (Slovakia) world leading mark.  Johnson now leads the American men and has the eleventh best mark in the world so far this year.  Chris Rohr also threw a personal best for third place.
