Boccalotta and Marqueling dominate hammer at NAIA Championships
Published by
Freshman Bruno Boccalotta (Lindenwood) took home a convincing win at the NAIA Championships on Thursday. The freshman from France entered the meet as the clear favorite and did not disappoint, with all six of his throws being measuring further than runner-up Chris Dilley's (Eastern Oregon) best. Boccalotta's fifth round attempt of 65.09m was also his second best throw of the year. Dilley, meanwhile, was in a close competition for second with Scott Fritz (Hastings) and ended up ending Fritz by less than a foot. Jean Marqueling (St. Francis) also convincingly won the women's competition, with all of her attempts better than runner-up Angela Krausz's (Lindenwood) best. Both Krausz and third place finisher Denise Mattoon (Oklahoma Christian) had four fouls and completed legal throws on only their first and last attempts. Matton threw 52.60m on her first attempt, whil Krausz improved to 52.62m on her final attempt to move from ninth to second place.
