There were several improvements on both the boys and girls lists over the last week. Shelby Ashe (St. Pius X, Atlanta, GA) broke the national junior class girls record and extended her national lead with a new personal best throw of 201'06". Her mark is also ties the Georgia state record and is just one inch off the national record set back in 1998 by Maureen Griffin. Senior Davis Fraker (McIntosh, Peachtree City, GA) debuted with the 12-pound hammer after throwing over 200-feet with the 16-pound hammer in May. His mark with the lighter implement ranks is the fourth best in the country this year. Greg Skipper (Oregon City, OR) also improve his Oregon state record for the second time in as many weeks. His new best of 223'08" adds nearly 7 feet to his old record. Although the 5k hammer throw is not normally contested in the U.S. it is conducted in some meets. Boys’ 5k performances of 160’ or more in an officially sanctioned meet will be included in the performance list providing the athlete is 16 or 17 years old through December 31, 2010 (born in 1993 or 1994) in accordance with IAAF guidelines for Youth Athletes.
