After a week-long vacation, CollegeHammer.com is back. First, let's talk about this week's action led by the results at the Drake Relays. There, Gwen Berry (Southern Illinois) stole the show with a personal best and NCAA leading mark of 70.52m. With that throw, Berry became the fifth collegiate thrower ever to break 70 meters and now ranks third all-time behind record holder Jenny Dahlgren and SIU grad Brittany Riley. On the west coast, Amanda Bingson (UNLV) was also close to 70 meters with a personal best of 69.79m. And in the men's competition at Drake, true freshman Justin Welch (Georgia) continued to impress with a new personal best of 68.63m, also the top mark of the weekend.

Out west, the USC/UCLA dual meet provided some close competition and great throws. Trey Henderson (USC) beat out another true freshman (Alec Faldermeyer (UCLA) by just inches despite Faldermeyer's final round personal best of 66.58m. On the women's side, Jenny Ozorai (USC) and Ida Storm (UCLA) both threw a season bests, with Ozario winning in the end.

Many of the elite throwers were also in action. At the Ashland Alumni Kibwe Johnson defeated A.G. Kruger for the second straight weekend. Chris Rohr also improved in the final round for a season's best of 74.40m that tied Kruger. Amber Campbell won the women's competition with yet another throw over 70 meters.

Also, we can't forget some exciting action that took place last weekend while we were gone. The Virginia Tech throwers dominated the ACC Championships. Marcel Lomnicky (Virginia Tech) threw a personal best and improved his NCAA leading mark to 75.84m. His teammate Alexander Ziegler took second place at 71.99m, which ranks second in the nation this season. Dorotea Habazin (Virginia Tech) won the women's competition with a personal best of 68.36m, which then ranked her second in the nation (she now has the third best mark).
