Last year's runner-up Dorotea Habazin (Virginia Tech) turned in a convincing performance to win the NCAA women's hammer throw title on Friday. In doing so, she also complete a sweep for the Virginia Tech team that also took home the men's hammer title on Thursday. Habazin turned was incredibly consistent, with her worst throw still better than 22 of the 24 competitors at the meet. Her best attempt came in the third round and it held on for the win. Runner-up Jeneva McCall (Southern Illinois) came close on her final attempt, but it was still a foot and a half short of the lead. Defending champion Nikola Lomnicka (Georgia) threw a season's best for third place and my pre-meet favorite Amanda Bingson (UNLV) struggled for fourth place with teammate Chelsea Cassulo (UNLV) in fifth.
