Several of the top collegiate men were in action at the USATF championships on Thursday. The competition was easily won by professional Kibwe Johnson. Johnson led the competition from start to finish, and ended the competition with a personal best of 80.31m in the final round. That mark is the third best ever in the United States and the second best mark in the world in 2011.

Last year's world junior champion Conor McCullough took seventh place with a personal best of 71.21m. While Conor took a year off of school to attend to some personal matters, he has stated he intends to return to Princeton in the future to finish his collegiate eligibility. The top collegiate thrower at the meet was D3 champion Eric Flores (California Lutheran) placed 10th with 67.62m. Colin Dunbar (Long Beach State) finished in 11th, and D2 Champion Ryan Loughney (Ashland) was 14th. True freshman Justin Welch (Georgia) struggled with fouls and finished in 17th.

The USATF Championships will continue on Friday with the Junior Men's Hammer Throw. Both the Senior and Junior Women's final will then take place on Saturday.
