Jere SummersJere' Summers (Louisville) has been in the shadow for much of this season. While her marks rank second in the NCAA, he also only ranks second on her team behind defending national champion D'Ana McCarty (Louisvilee). But coming off of a redshirt year, Summers has had a very strong indoor season. She started off her season with a personal best throw to beat McCarty. She has continued to throw personal bests in her last three competitions. This past weekend, she placed secodn to McCarty with a impressive new best of 21.60m at the the Hoosier Hills Invitational. Summers is now ranked second in the nation in both the weight throw and shot put.

Others considered: Nikola Lomnicka (Georgia) threw her third personal best in three competitions this year and is quickly making her way up the national rankings. D'Ana McCarty (Louisville) and Jason Stomps (Hillsdale) both came within inches of the impressive new bests they threw last weekend. While Walter Henning (LSU) was off of his best this weekend, he still beat the defening national champion at Arkansas, the host of this year's NCAA Indoor Championships.

The CollegeHammer.com Athlete of the Week honor is awarded for the nation's most impressive male or female weight throw performance over the past week. Previous winners: Feb 8 - Alexander Ziegler (Virginia Tech); Feb 1 - Kristin Smith (Kentucky); Jan 25 - Marcel Lomnicky (Virginia Tech); Jan 18 - Jeneva McCall (Louisville)
