While many of the top men took the weekend off in preparation for the big conference championships next month, the top two women were in action at their own conference championship.  D'Ana McCarty (Louisville) and Jere' Summers (Louisville) swept the Big East Conference Championships with personal bests.  McCary improved her best from 22.36m to 22.56m.  Summers, who was named last week's athlete of the week, had an even bigger improvement from 21.60m to 22.35m.  Irene Cooper (western Michigan) also had a nice improvement to move her up to fourth on the national performance list.

Steffen Nerdal (Memphis) was the only favorite to throw this weekend and proved his is still in form by throwing 22.56m.  After a big personal best last week, Aaron Studt (Minnesota) had another great throw.

In the professional ranks, Amber Campbell improved her world-leading mark by 12 centimeters. McCarty ranks second in the world.  Drew Loftin also became the 8th American to surpass 23-meters this year, showing the impressive depth in the event.  Next weekend's USA Championships is sure to be a close one.
