3/19/10 U.S. High School Weight List
Published by
Athletes from across the country turned in many great performances on championships weekend to shake up both the boy's and girl's national lists. The action started Friday at the Nike Indoor Nationals meet and then continued Sunday at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships (boys results here and girls results here). By far the highlight of the weekend was a new national record thrown by Shelby Ashe (St. Pius X, Atlanta, GA). Ashe didn't just break the national record, she shattered it. By the end of the meet, three of her throws measured further than the old record and her best added over three feet to the national record. Ashe was one of five improvement among the nation's top seven girls. Alec Faldermeyer (Minisink Valley, Slate Hill, NY) won both national titles on the boys side, but it was Justin Welch (Eastwood, Pemberville, OH) that improved his best and moved up the all-time list over the weekend. Welch was jut one of six athletes to improve in the nation's top ten. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ashe’s third round throw of 18.97m (62’03.00”) broke Victoria Flowers’
(SR/Classical High School, Providence, RI) national record of 62’02.00” set
at The New England Invitational Weight Throw Meet at Central High School,
Providence, RI on March 3, 2008. She then bettered this performance in
the fourth round with another record throw of 19.92m (65’04.25”).
J – New national junior record.
This performance also bettered Maureen Griffin’s (JR/Pocatello, ID) national
junior class record of 18.55m (60’10.50”) set at the 1997 NSIC at the Reggie
Lewis Track and Athletic Center, Roxbury Crossing, MA on March 8, 1997.
