CollegeHammer.com Athlete of the Week: Amanda Bingson
Published by
I've been busy that past few days and in the rush to put up the weekend results I missed some marks that hadn't been posted yet. One of the meets I missed was the Mountain West Conference championship. After being pointed to the results (note: if I miss any marks, it is not intentional...just send me a link and I'll get them online) I looked in astonishment at the winning women's mark. Sophomore Amanda Bingson (UNLV) threw a personal best to easily win the competition. But her mark wasn't just any personal best, she threw a 5.67-meter (18.5-foot) personal best! It's been a while since I've seen a personal best that big, so it easily wins this week's CollegeHammer.com Athlete of the Week honor. Others considered: Conor McCullough (Princeton) broke 70 meters again and improved his own junior national record that he set last weekend. Dorotea Habazin (Virginia Tech) threw a 2-meters season best and 1-meter career best at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Walter Henning (LSU) won the SEC title and leading the nation yet again over the weekend. Eric Flores (California Lutheran) again extended his own D3 national lead. The CollegeHammer.com Athlete of the Week honor is awarded for the nation's most impressive male or female collegiate hammer throw performance over the past week. Previous winners: May 10 - Conor McCullough (Princeton); May 3 - Trey Henderson (USC); Apr 26 - Sarah Grimm (Utah); Apr 19 - Lauren Chambers (USC).
