Sarah Stevens (Arizona State) moved into the national lead this weekend
with a new personal best throw of 21.59m (70-10.00). Stevens now leads
Loren Groves (Kansas State) and Stevi Large (Akron) by nearly a foot.
Groves showed her consistency yet again this weekend with a slight
improvement to 21.34m (70-00.25).
On the men's side, Walter
Henning (LSU) once again had the top mark of the weekend. Boldi
Kocsor (UCLA) and Steffen Nerdal (Memphis) both improved their personal
best and broke 70-feet over the weekend, the latter breaking that
barrier for the first time in his life. The newcomer of the weekend
was Marcel Lomnicky (Virginia Tech). The 21-year old sophomore thrower
from the Slovak Republic enrolled in school last month and was
impressive in his first weight throw competition ever. Lomnicky brings
an impressive resume to Virginia Tech. In 2006, he placed third in the
IAAF World Junior Championships. He also bosts a personal best of
72.66m in the hammer throw, a mark which is the top returning mark in
the nation this year.
