Results for the Weekend of 1/09/10

Defending NCAA champion D'Ana McCarty (Louisville) opened up her season with a second place showing at the Indiana Open. Her best throw of 20.48m was well off of her personal best of 22.09m from last season but still still well ahead of where she was as the start of the 2009 season. At the same meet last year, McCarty failed to break 20m, but she steadily improved throughout the season before peaking at indoor nationals for the win. McCarty was beat by her teammate Jere' Summers (Louisville). Summers redshirted the 2009 indoor season, but was a national qualifier in 2008 and now sits atop the national lists. Fewer elite men threw over the weekend. Only two throwers met the NCAA provisional qualifying mark, led by Leif Arrhenius (BYU). Arrhenius, who placed 11th at the NCAA championships last year, opened his season with the same exact mark he began last season with: 20.00m. Expect more top throwers to begin their indoors season in the coming weeks.
