I raised the standards for the weekly results round-up by 50 centimeters this week, but the results were so good that almost as many throwers hit the higher standards. The men's side had eight throwers over 21 meters this weekend, led by Walter Henning's (LSU) season best and a personal best by his teammate Michael Lauro (LSU). Henning has been slow to star the year, but still has a good lead on the rest of the throwers in the country. J.C. Lambert (Southern Illinois) continued a great season for the Salukis with a personal best of almost two feet. Alexander Ziegler (Virginia Tech), who palced third at NCAA indoors last year with a best over 22 meters, finally opened his season with a throw of 21.29m. Davis Fraker (Illinois) has continued to produce some outstanding results for a true freshman, but this week he was outshined by Alec Faldermeyer's (UCLA) collegiate debut. The New York native and former high school national champion threw 20.78m.

On the girl's side, Felisha Johnson (Indiana State) also continued her great season by adding yet another foot to her personal best. Her new best of 22.62m is just inches under Gwen Bweey's (Southern Illinois) national lead and almost three meters better than her personal best entering the season. Jeneva McCall (Southern Illinois) also broke 22m again, while D'Ana McCarty continued to search for last year's form. Brittney Waller (Indiana State), Juliana Smith (Mississippi), and Dorotea Habazin (Virginia Tech) also threw personal bests.

While NCAA Division 2 throwers have been filling the headlines this year, Division 3 throwers have been just as impressive under the radar. Over this past weekend Andrew Brueggen (St. Mary's-Minnesota) threw a personal best of 19.41m to move into second place nationally. Holly Ozanich (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) set a new personal best last week and threw over 19 meters again this week. She has surpassed 19 meters in all four of her competitions this year and has a lead of more than 1.5-meters on the national list.

Post-collegiate action was also hot over the weekend. As we reported on Saturday, Libor Charfreitag of Slovakia improved his world leading mark to 24.88m. Garlard Porter placed second in the same competition with a new U.S. leading mark of 24.40m.
