After a few slow weeks to start out the season, true freshman Conor McCullough (Princeton) lived up to the hype and launched a personal best of 70.37m to win the Heptagonal Championships on Saturday. In addition to ranking third in the NCAA, the mark is also a new league and U.S. junior national record. McCullough, already the national high school record holder, added more than two feet to Walter Henning's national junior record. Henning still holds the U.S. junior record with the international 6-kilogram implement.

Also in men's action, junior Eric Flores (California Lutheran) threw a new D3 leading mark. Drew Frizzell (Central Missouri) extended his D2 national lead and Jason Stomps (Hillsdale) threw a big best to move within inches.

Nikola Lomnicka (Georgia) had the top women's mark of the weekend at 63.29m. Brynn Smith (Brown) had the second best mark to win the Heptagonal Championship and also set a new league and meet record.
