A few of the top throwers took the weekend off to prepare for the slew of conference championships this weekend. However, many throwers had their own conference meets last weekend and used that as a time to shine. Princeton's Conor McCullough did just that. The much hyped recruit from California came to Princeton with a World Junior Championships silver medal and the high school national record. In his first year there, he now can add a U.S. Junior National record and Heptagonal league record to his lengthening list of accolades. With a winning throw of 70.37m, McCullough added over five feet to the former junior national record set by LSU's Walter Henning in 2008. McCullough now hopes he can join Henning as a World Junior champion this summer.

Others considered: Brynn Smith (Brown) also won a Heptagonal title with a league record throw. Drew Frizzell (Central Missouri) and Jason Stomps (Hillsdale), the number one and two D2 throwers, for both throwing personal bests at their conference championships. Eric Flores (California Lutheran) also improved his D3 lead with a new personal best.

The CollegeHammer.com Athlete of the Week honor is awarded for the nation's most impressive male or female collegiate hammer throw performance over the past week. Previous winners: May 3 - Trey Henderson (USC); Apr 26 - Sarah Grimm (Utah); Apr 19 - Lauren Chambers (USC).
