There were some big marks over the weekend, including new national leading marks in both the men's and women's weight throw.  Walter Henning (LSU) improved his best by another foot to dominate the competition at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational and improve his nation lead.  Runner-up Mike Zajac (South Carolina) also improved his best for the second straight weekend.

Further south at the Virginia Tech Elite, freshman Alexander Ziegler (Virginia Tech) threw a massive best of 22.09m (72-05.75). Ziegler opened his season two weeks ago with a toss of just 19.44m.  However, the German thrower entered the season with a personal best of 72.46m in the hammer throw and it was only a matter of time before he tossed a better result in the weight.  Kristin Smith (Kentucky) won the women's competition with a personal best in her third straight meet.

The top women's marks of the weekend came from the Louisville throwers.  National leader D'Ana McCarty (Louisville) extended her national lead with a new personal best of 22.36m (73-04.50) and teammate Jere' Summers moved up to second nationally with a toss of 21.48m (70-05.75).

Few top post collegiate women threw over the weekend, but A.G. Kruger and Cory Martin became the first two men to break 24 meters this year.
