CollegeHammer.com Athlete of the Week: Branislav Danis

Branislav DanisBefore last season, Branislav Danis (Georgia) had never thrown the weight. The junior college transfer from Slovakia placed just 8th at the SEC indoor championships and had a best of 19.20 meters in two competitions. This season, however, he has started to get the hang of things. Danis has thrown personal bests in four of his five competitions, improving his best by more than two meters throughout this season. At the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet last Saturday, Danis improved his best by a meter to 21.11 meters. Entering the meet, Danis did not look like he would be able to qualify for hte NCAA Championships, but the new mark moved him up to 8th best in the country and secured himself a spot at the big dance. Danis clutch personal best earns him this week's athlete of the week honor.
