CollegeHammer.com Indoor Rankings Vol. 5
Published by
Volume Five - 5 March 2010 With the last chance meets this weekend, we will know in just a few days who will be competing at the NCAA Indoor championships. Most of the top athletes have already secured their berths, but those looking to upset and earn for All-American honors better perform well this weekend. Last year 14 men and 17 women qualified for the meet. If the same number are chosen this year, LSU's Michael Lauro (20.65m) and Indiana State's Felisha Johnson (19.89m) would be the last one's in. But as it happens every year, things shift during the last week and we will need to wait until next week to know the qualifiers for sure. Once the qualifiers are announced, check back with CollegeHammer.com for an in depth preview and predictions of the meet. After the competition, we will provide results and analysis. In the meantime, here our our final rankings of the season. Men: There are few changes this week. Walter Henning (LSU) continues to impress. Steffen Nerdal (Memphis) had another good mark and Alexander Ziegler (Virginia Tech) continued to improve and show that he can be in the mix as well. One of the big question marks is Jason Lewis (Arizona State). Lewis skipped his indoor conference championship to throw shot at the USATF Indoor Championships. He has only thrown the weight twice this season and may have more in store. K.P. Singh (Oklahoma) threw over 21 meters for the second straight week to make his way into the top eight.
Dropped from rankings: John Freeman (Georgia) (8). On the bubble (in alphabetical order): Leif Arrhenius (BYU); John Freeman (Georgia); Michael Lauro (LSU); Brad Millar (DePaul). Women: While D'Ana McCarty (Louisville) and Jere' Summers (Louisville) had the weekend off, Jeneva McCall (Southern Illinois) had the best mark of the weekend. Those three continue to be the only throwers that have broken 21 meters this year, and seem capable of doing so at every meet. Nikola Lomnicka (Georgia) dropped this week after losing the SEC title. Kelsey Hanley (Indiana State) was a big mover after throwing a PR for the third straight week.
Dropped from rankings: Brittany Cox (Middle Tennessee State) (8). On the bubble (in alphabetical order): Nicola Luckenbach (Eastern Washington); Frednisha Marshall (Stephen F. Austin); Faith Sherrill (Indiana). The CollegeHammer.com rankings are subjective and take into account the following factors: head-to-head record versus top rivals, season's best, previous big meet performances (i.e. peaking ability), recent performances, consistency, personal best, as well as other factors.
